WEEKLY ROUND UP - 09/09/09

From The Argus Sport
by Howard Griigs

Ryan McBride had a penalty saved as Whitehawk lost their 100% record in County League division one. McBride’s first-half effort was saved by Chris May as the Hawks had to settle for a 0-0 draw away to Redhill. The hosts, who are now up to third in the table, proved to be strong opposition and almost snatched victory themselves when John Difford’s header from a corner hit the bar. Whitehawk remain second but on the same points as leaders Wick, who have played a game more. Wick also had to settle for a point as they drew 2-2 at home to Arundel.
Ashley Martin gave the visitors a first-half lead but goals from George Gaskin and Daren Pearce put Wick in control with 14 minutes remaining only for Scott Tipper to level in the closing stages.
Joel O’Hara struck two minutes from time to earn Three Bridges a 1-1 draw at Hassocks while Ryan Alexander’s brace helped Hailsham to a 5-2 defeat of Crowborough. Geoff Pitcher scored again St Francis Rangers beat Mile Oak 2-0.
