02/01/09 WICK MATCG POSTPONED AT KICK OFF
WEEKENDS FOOTBALL NEWS

From the onlookers point of view it all looked good for the match to go ahead at the Caburn this Saturday against visitors Wick in the first game of 2010 . The snow had gone and the rains had stopped, the sun had been shinning on most of the pitch for nearly two day's with the groundsman doing all he could, the whole picture looked good as the supporters started arriving, it all looked like we were at last going to get to watch a football match at the Caburn

That was until the Ref decided at 3:00 to call it off, why then and not when he arrived an 1hr 1/4 earlier only he knows, the weather conditions were not going to change the pitch in an hour! Instead we all stood round waiting for a decision either way. We all now no the outcome which many feel was the wrong decision, it seemed everybody, managers, players etc were willing to play it but it was not to be.

The Reserve how ever had a better day at the office, desperate for players after a few had drop out, the lads took to the pitch with four youth team players stepping up to fill the gaps, Kieran Patel being the only 1st team player to get a game (good call Kieran). It was also Manager Dave Millars first debut match in the hot seat. The Ringmer lads put on a good show for Dave and beat Seaford 2-1 with Ryan Betsworth converting a penalty and the second goal from Jordan

Dryer's goal puts the Blues through to the next round

The second successive cup game at home for the Blues this time the visitors were Peacehaven and the Brighton Charity Cup. Ringmer history this season playing third placed Peacehaven, has not been good, loosing three out of three games to them, knocking us out of the RUR Cup and both league matches. This made this win a bit sweeter for that fact.

Ringmer looked the better at the start with a goal coming from Kieran Patel after 18m, at half time it remained 1-0 to Ringmer. Disaster be-fell the Blues once again in the last five minutes of the game after a Peacehaven free kick led to a goal sending the match into extra time. A goal from Joe Dryer three minutes from the end of extra time sealed the win for the Blues in this hard fought tie.
Ringmer Manger Bob Munnery was pleased with the win and the teams performance after a bad run of games.
"As we've had a run of games where things haven't quite gone our way - in particular League games - and at times we've not shown the killer instinct in the last third of the game - it was satisfying to end a battle showing true grit and determination.

It was also good to see JD returning to the form he showed two terms ago. He wanted to come off at 90 minutes but with Jay needing to quit with a swollen ankle (which we worked on pre-match) and having only Lasty as our remaining sub he had little option other than to stay on. His goal making the final difference.

With Aaron Hasan our club captain returning and Pricey and Ryan Mac available for Saturday we see possible changes for the game versus Crawley Down. We could lose Jay with his ankle and JD with a dead leg but we'll have to see. I have to check with Eastbourne Town to see if we can continue to use Jon Marzetti.

I was intrigued to see that Crawley Down netted seven times against East Grinstead last night. We have a tough encounter before us on Saturday afternoon".
