Mistakes by Ref cost Ringmer a win.
Nobody can say that the Blues did not try on Saturday and most would agree that they deserved the win. Indeed I suspect they would have done but for some poor decisions and blatant mistakes by the Referee. The Blues 2-1 up at the break and looking very positive, but by the end of the match all things were level at 4-4. This was after Ringmer goalkeeper Gary Trott was sent off supposedly for hand balling outside of the area, when I asked he said the ball hit his chest/shoulder in the fracas as he went down. From here the game was turned, Wick scoring twice in the last minutes of the match taking it too extra time, where they eventually emerged winners at 5-7.
For those who don't use the Nomad forum a quote by one of our players:
"We've had this ref before and he is an honest and good bloke. However he must realise that he had a shocker for us all game. Two blatant pens missed and a series of other mistakes. Same as players - sometimes we have poor games." "Wick are a good bunch of lads so no hard feelings against them. The turning point was when we were 4-2 up with 7 mins to go our keeper had a rush of blood to the head and came flying out of his goal to make a handball. He was sent off and Wick got it back to 4-4. We put Dave Soutar our defender in goal and from that point onwards it was really one way traffic and very dissapointing as we were so close to a good win. You could argue that their keeper should have been sent off in the first half too. Never mind, we played well and hopefully will have more luck next time"
Our manager had this to say
"You all know I dont moan about refs and I'm not going to say that this fella had a real bad game but someone else may well say something along those lines.”
“He made a mistake on the red card and I made one on the outfield player to replace the ousted keeper. He didn't mention my error so I thought it inappropriate to mention his.By contrast our number 8 put in a great performance - lets hope he keeps it going .... "
“Have no doubt, whilst we would want to win the cup game v Wick and the cup game v Peacehaven, we are completely focused on the next league match and three points.”
