Bob Munnery, the manager of Ringmer, knew all about it. So did Clive Taylor, his counterpart at Rye United. It may have been an East Sussex derby match, in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup in August, but there was no way this tie was going to the inconvenience and additional cost of a replay 36 miles away. And so it was played out on the day, with Ringmer winning 4-3 after extra time in front of 73 spectators.
